The Beautiful Losers
With musical interests ranging from funk, to jazz, to rock, to hip-hop, Beautiful Losers (Eric Smith, Trevor Hougardy Rob Lowery and Garth West) have a diverse sound created by very different individuals with a common goal. “From the begining, one of our main goals has been to allow each one of us to express our individual personality through our music,” says lead guitarist Trevor Hougardy. The result of this free approach to making music is a genuine style that has the ability to evolve from song to song without losing its’ distinct sound. Formed in the summer of 2004 as a cover band playing weekly gigs around the Springfield, MO area, the band soon decided to concentrate less on learning songs, and more on creating them. Within a few months the band wrote and recorded thier first EP featuring “Pathetic” and “Here We Go”, then a second in the Spring featuring “Gravity” and “Uncertain Disaster.” “We all were pretty excited after hearing the first and second recordings because we felt like we were achieving exactly what we set out to. We were making our music without worrying about what it would be called,” vocalist Eric Smith recalls. With new material to perform, the Beautiful Losers began playing venues all over Springfield as well as branching out to other nearby cities and bringing their emotional and energetic live show to new audiences.
