Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band
“Bounce” is the philosophy of this 7-piece outfit as they unload their slinky style of soul, reggae, rock, hip-hop, blues, ska and deep funk on crowds across the Southeast/mid-Atlantic circuit. Formed in 2002, and hailing from Boone, NC, Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band mixes triumphant horns and laid-back grooves with fat backbeats and a hilarious stage presence. The swarms of swaying bodies at their sold-out shows testify to the thick organic thump and boundless energy. Featuring several multi-instrumentalists, the Booty Band keeps things fresh and constantly changing onstage. Greg Hollowell bends and twists the saxophone with smoldering grooves while John-Paul Miller switches from soaring lead guitar licks to a funkified bass. Joshua Michael Phillips lays down percussion, guitar and bass alongside Grady Gilbert, who holds down the all-too-funky rhythm guitar. Al Ingram plays the bass to move your waist, sometimes adding a soaring trombone to spice up the stew. Ric Bennet anchors this mighty vessel, pounding the pocket with his rhythmic drumming, and if you’re lucky, guest vocalist Susannah Baum might stop by to lend her super sexy voice to several sultry songs.
