Shanti Groove is helping to spearhead the progressive jamgrass movement in a big way. By blending elements of jam improvisation with traditional bluegrass, Shanti Groove pushes musical boundaries while defying traditional labeling. The band is best known for its eclectic mix of various musical styles, precision flat-picking skills, and unpredictable live shows. Shanti Groove’s sound falls somewhere in between the world of electric and acoustic music, with the two often being fused together in new and exciting ways. Performing over 200 shows in the last year alone, Shanti Groove will be realeasing a second album in the near future. The as yet to be titled album was recorded in Nashville with producer Scott Rouse, known for his work with such music legends as Del McCoury and Doc Watson. The result is a beautiful collection of new and re-worked material along with traditional bluegrass songs that fans of the genre will certainly enjoy hearing. Originally formed in 2000, Shanti Groove got their start in the Boulder Colorado music scene and quickly built up a devoted following. Known for having an anything goes mentality when it comes to live performances, the band’s annual Fall Barn Burner at the Fox Theatre in Boulder has become a not to be missed event. The current lineup features Jason Flournoy on banjo, John Heiland on mandolin, Juri Freeman on bass, Jason Scroggins on guitar, and Christian Carland on drums.
