Robert Randolph and the Family Band
From the church pews to the festival fields comes Robert Randolph and the Family Band. In the two years since the band played the inaugural Wakarusa festival the group has been riding a huge wave of success. This elevator ride to the top includes jamming with the likes of Eric Clapton and Widespread Panic to opening for Santana, not to mention playing to packed houses from coast to coast. This success should not come as any surprise though as the group’s dynamic sound beckons not only fellow musicians to come and get down but also countless fans from all walks of life. The group itself is comprised of some extremely talented musicians. Bass player Danyel Morgan lays down the groove with a unique strum/slap style that very few players are able to perfect. Marcus Randolph locks down the beats on the drums, powering the jams through turns that could stop on a dime. Jason Crosby, who has been studying music since the age of 2, adds to the mix with original keyboard lines. Finally Robert Randolph himself draws it all together with his ferocious and passionate sound emanating from the pedal steel. The results are truly hard to classify…and that’s a good thing.
