Oteil & the Peacemakers
A bass master of jam band-style funk, rock, blues, jazz, and everything in between, Burbridge first emerged as a founding member of Aquarium Rescue Unit, a group that recorded their first album in the early ’90s. In 1997, he replaced bassist Allen Woody in the Allman Brothers Band when Woody joined up with Gov’t Mule. In recent years, Oteil and the Peacemakers have brought a new level of musicianship to the table. While Burbridge often gets a lot of the attention, the rest of the band is just as talented and prolific as he is. Paul Henson is well-known as the lead singer of The Aquarium Rescue Unit after Col. Bruce Hampton’s departure in 1993, fronting the band until its demise in 1997. Henson’s soulful vocals have been favorably compared to Lenny Williams (Tower of Power) and David Clayton-Thomas (Blood, Sweat and Tears). Drummer Chris Fryar played with the blues-rock touring group Gravy. He has also done session/side work with acts as diverse as Robert Moore and the Wildcats, Charles Neville and Victor Wooten. Keyboardist Matt Slocum was classically trained, attending the New England Conservatory of Music. As the newest member of the band, he adds precise musicianship to the mix. Guitarist Mark Kimbrell is also a veteran of the session scene, and brings astounding guitar virtuosity to the group’s performances.
