A note about the weather related cancellations

6.13.2008

We're very sorry to report that several artists were unable to perform at the festival Sunday following a severe thunderstorm that rolled through the area. Two festival stages were unable to continue due to standing water issues and the physical inability to get artists to those stages. Our main stage performances of the Mickey Hart Band and Zappa Play Zappa were canceled because of a roof failure at that stage. It was simply not safe nor prudent to continue under the circumstances. We apologize to everyone for this unfortunate event. We are very happy to announce that Zappa Plays Zappa has agreed to perform at Wakarusa 2009. Although we are truly sorry for the cancellations, it must be pointed out that the festival had no control over the storms nor the other events that lead to artist cancellations. On a much brighter note - the staff and crew rallied like the stars they are after the storms and the show did go on at the Revival tent. David Grisman, Avett Brothers and Split Lip Rayfield gave spectacular performances and closed out the festival to a very hardy and robust crowd.

Want to perform at Waka 2007?

12.6.2006

The Wakarusa Music Festival will be traveling to 19 cities this winter in a quest to locate the best and brightest musicians the country has to offer. At every stop on the tour, several bands will compete in a regional talent showcase. The winner of each talent showcase will receive an invitation to play at Wakarusa 2007. But it doesn’t end there. The winners in each city will also have their music featured on our website and will compete in an online talent showcase. The three bands that receive the most votes in our online competition will get to play the Revival stage at the festival along with a host of other surprises. Want to take part in one of our talent showcases? Just head on over to www.wakawinterclassic.com for all of the details.
